The adorable NZ Fantail, a personal favourite. In Maori mythology the Fantail, or Pīwakawaka are meant to be a messenger of death and if one enters your house it’s meant to be bad luck.
I’ve decided to see them differently. They always remind me of my Granddad, I like to think that they are just him checking up on me and saying I’m still here. So technically still a messenger of death but one of love and kindness.
This artwork created with a combination of watercolour and ink, depicts a NZ Fantail aka Pīwakawaka.
