The Queen Alexandra Birdwing is the largest butterfly in the world. This is the male colouring of the species. The female is a beautiful mix of brown, white and gold markings and grows to an average wingspan of 28cm.

Some of the colours of this species were hard to replicate, however I feel I was able to get a truly stunning interpretation. With the use of a stippling technique I managed to get the illusion of the butterfly scales on the wings. This in turn really helped the different colours blend well together.
