The Garden Tiger Moth is a northern species of moth that prefers the cooler temperate climates of Canada, the US and Europe. Interestingly the caterpillars are referred to as ‘Woolly Bears’ because of their fuzzy appearance.

For this piece I really wanted the blue spots to shine, so I literally made them shine with metallic paint. It really added a new dimension to the work and has inspired me to use more metallics in my next series of ‘Butterflies and Moths’.
