A common moth found across North America, the ‘Harnessed Tiger Moth’ is known for its showy appearance - a defence mechanism to ward off predators. Unfortunately for them their main predator, bats are undeterred by their flashy looks.

Since this particular species has a relatively simple pattern design I decided to accentuate the colours in the painting of this. This was achieved through the use of blue highlights in the black spots, blocky colouring and adding iridescent paint to make the wings shine.
