Know as the Mountain Blue Swallowtail or the Ulysses (after the Ancient Greek hero) Butterfly. Found across Australia, Indonesia & Papua New Guinea but most commonly found in Queensland, Australia where it is used as a tourism mascot.

The vividness of the Ulysses butterfly is incredibly hard to replicate - I opted instead to create a ‘shine’ effect on the wings. I was unable to add an actual metallic effect to the blue, as it only succeeded in dulling the colour. However, there is a small amount of metallic copper visible at certain angles, at the tips of the wings.

The green on the body of the butterfly is referred to as ‘Beetle Green’. This an iridescent effect that happens across the animal kingdom, especially with insects and birds feathers.
