The ‘NZ Falcon’ aka kārearea - one of NZ’s few birds of prey. 

Often confused with the Swamp Harrier, whom is an opportunist when it comes to food(i.e. eats roadkill). The falcon is smaller, rarely eats carrion and instead prefers to have dynamic chasing flights for prey.

The Kārearea also appears on the $20 note in NZ.
