Pukeko, also known as Australasian Swamphen or Purple Swamphen
The Pukeko is a common and prominent bird found throughout New Zealand. They prefer swampy areas and are frequently found on roadsides with waterways. They are one of the few bird species that have benefited from clearing land for agriculture.
